Productivity
Jesus was clearly concerned with people’s ‘‘spiritual productivity.’’ He taught that a good heart toward God’s Word always produces an amazing outcome. Jesus also described what he considered to be the appropriate outcome of the life of a man or woman of God: an amazing, multiplying impact. If you planted one apple seed and carefully supplied the seed with all the nourishment it requires to become a mature tree, would you expect only one apple in return? Of course not! You would expect hundreds of apples. An apple tree that produced only one or two apples would be cut down and used for firewood. The very commonplace nature of this miracle does not diminish the incredible wonder of the transformation of a small, dull and tasteless speck into a great number of delicious, juicy and nutritious apples. Such a miracle of nature mirrors God’s expectation of the man or woman who lives by faith. Spirituality and productivity are related. Whether the multiplication is thirty fold or one-hundred fold doesn’t matter as much as the fact that the quantity of fruit born from our lives can only be explained by the power of God. ‘‘From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.’’ What is there in your life that can only be explained by the power of God?
